STUDENT REFERENCES

I've found that as I take on tasks, my habit is to tell myself, I'm just not talented enough to finish whatever it is when things get rough."  But through Tae Kwon Do, Ms. Schwartz, as my instructor, has pushed me through, and Dr. McCain with his instruction and wisdom, has encouraged me. So even though I go through slumps, I know I can never quit just because it is hard. This determination has influenced other areas of my life, as well, and will stay with me the rest of my life.       Miss Kayla Katayama

"I have been a part MCTKD for three years. In that time, I have found the instructors to be many things. This is a list of some of the adjectives I would use to describe them:  diligent, gentle, wise, available, skilled, genuine, Godly, concerned, patient, generous, dedicated, loving, driven.    MCTKD classes are a superb family environment. The physical training an individual receives is invaluable in boosting his or her self-esteem. The Christian emphasis in the lives of the instructors shines through and guides the method of instruction. I greatly appreciate the solid martial arts instruction, free of Eastern philosophy that would contradict my own Christian faith. Anyone searching for a solid family activity that will bless you in many ways, including physical, spiritual and intellectual would be well served to stop in and check out a class or two. Blessings to you in your search." Toben Barnum

Pastor Mark Richline: When I jumped and caught my opponent in the back of his head with a flying round kick, not only did I score extra points in our sparring match but also I totally surprised myself! Never did I think I could pull-off a move like that. Ever since my son and I began taking classes over three years ago we have both developed greater strength, agility and speed, combined with the self-control necessary to enjoy martial arts without serious injury. Our instructors, Dr. McCain and Ms. Schwartz are both highly skilled in the art of Taekwondo and not only detailed but also very patient in their training. Not once in all my hours of instruction have I seen them lose patience with a student. Their great sense of humor and affirming nature sets their students at ease while constantly challenging them to strive toward higher levels of achievement. We are also honored to be part of a school where the students want to see each other succeed. We spar fiercely, only to end most of our matches with a friendly embrace, thankful for the chance to improve on each other's technique. My son and I are both very thankful to the Lord for this school and for our instructors who have also become close friends.

Andy Schwartz: I began learning TKD with Dr. McCain in Ducor, CA in 1992, and continued studying under him and others until 1998. The discipline Dr. McCain instilled in me and his other students proved far more valuable than I could have expected at the time. It taught me important principles such as "courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit". Now I am in the Marine Corps and continually follow these tenets, which have contributed greatly to success. Dr. McCain not only teaches and encourages his students, but he is not afraid to challenge people beyond their own perceived limitations. Anyone who is willing to listen and work hard will receive rewards that will stay with them throughout their life.

Sheila Shull: Both my husband and grandson wanted to get involved in a martial arts program about 3+ years ago. SO we set out to find "the right" place for them to go. They first attended a different Martial Arts place, but it just didn't feel right. The Instructor did not seem professional nor did it serve the other purpose that we were looking for. The spiritual place to learn is Mid Cal Tae Kwon Do.  It is SO different. The people there are wonderful: From the youngest student willing and eager to learn all the way to the head Instructor, Dr. McCain... My two guys have been there over a year now and it is just GREAT!! They both participated in their first tournament just a couple of weeks ago, and it was such a blast.... If you are looking for a Martial Arts place that is safe, fun, and warm this is the RIGHT place for you and your family to be. My husband should have his Black Belt in a few months, and our grandson is on his way to his Blue Belt.. This is TRULY a place where the whole family can enjoy, learn, and spend some time together learning something fun and interesting.
